An article about the horrible act of deforestation, based on a true story.
The UTLTIMATE crime (the true story!)

Three years ago my family and I moved to a new house. Yes it was a great moment for me because this new house was much better than the older one. It was much bigger which allowed each member of the family to have more space. It was much nicer concerning the design and the partition of the different rooms. The view was also great. But what topped all of that is:
It was surrounded by a huge number of pine trees. Well almost surrounded three sides out of four (the 4th side had a great view the sea not pine trees.). Those pine trees were amazing; they were very green very big and very beautiful. They also brought values to my head such as wisdom experience. Those particular values because of the age of those pine trees they must each be aged over a century which is amazing. Moreover those beauties made the air much fresher and the scenery much easier on the eyes. I could stare at them for hours without getting bored it was complete relaxation! It was simply beautiful!

UNTIL ONE DAY…

It was an ordinary day just like all the others. The school bus reached the neighborhood and while getting closer to my house I felt the presence of unusual things: there was a truck a chainsaw and a worker. I asked myself “Hmmm what are those doing here??” and unfortunately I was too innocent to figure out an answer. I arrived home and started to have lunch with my mom when she informed me with disdain that they were going to remove all my beloved trees from the right side of our building ironically to build another building. The idea was just awful and something even more awful was the noise caused by the chainsaws and the trucks.
Anyway a third of those pine trees were going to be no more along with their beauty and freshness…Well let’s be optimistic we still got two thirds.

TWO WEEKS LATER…

Same scenario happens but this time with the left and back side! Two weeks earlier I succeeded in keeping some optimism by praising the two remaining thirds this time I was trying to figure out what could cheer me up but in vain. Those criminals were taking away from us all the beauties offered to us by nature and I’m sure they did that illegally! Day by day the number of trees was decreasing until they ended up by fully disappearing all of them!

ONE YEAR LATER…

Buildings had been built and were as high as the resting in peace trees once were. It was weird how it took the trees a hundred years to reach the height they reached when it only took one year for the buildings to reach the same height. However it is true; the buildings were less colorful less refreshing and much less inspiring.

Well what I’m trying to say is that deforestation is an awful and horrific act. It sure has many bad consequences on the environment but that’s not the convincing reason. What would be persuasive is simply to try to meditate while looking at those wonderful trees. Unfortunately we can clearly notice a difference between the old green mountains that we used to have in our country compared to our new white mountains made out of (no not snow) but simply concrete!
Buildings can be nice sometimes and we need them to live but I think that we probably have enough buildings and we need more trees for our environment! I just hope that soon enough (before it’s too late) people will start realizing the losses we’re having and react by stopping or at least limiting deforestation.
